Oh make me over! Makeup space edition

We recently moved house and my husband made it very clear from day one that my makeup was not to take over our bathroom, as it had done so in our previous homes.

I was only too happy to comply with this request, as I had seen some amazing ideas on Pinterest for makeup tables. My 'before' set up was ok. But the light was pretty bad, and the mirror was tiny. There was not really enough room on the surface of the desk to spread out my brushes, etc.

So a trip to IKEA was required. I purchased the SOKNEDAL Mirror in white and the MUSIK wall lights X2 and 10 bulbs. I came home and excitedly ripped the lights out of the box only to discover they need to be hard wired into the wall. Yes, there is a huge big sticker with a yellow warning panel to say they have to be installed by an electrician but in my excitement, I did not see/read this. I considered returning them to IKEA, but I really liked the old school makeup station look these lights gave and the only options for lights with cables and plugs were LED strip lights - not quite the look I was going for. Not to be discouraged, I put this project on ice for a few weeks.

I discussed with the hubby all of the other electrical jobs we needed done around the house (yes, they needed to be done, but they could have waited a year or so...) so we got a sparky out to our place. Can I just say, Chris Boyd Electrical is a dead-set legend and if you have ANY electrical work that needs to be done, give him a bell or send him an email. Polite, on time, hard worker. Worth his weight in gold.

Anywho, I was able to achieve my desired look for my makeup station.  The gorgeous chair is from Bed Bath N' Table and it is sympathetic to the bed we have (naturally, it is IKEA) :)

Now I feel like a movie star every time I sit down to clean my face, do my hair or apply my makeup.

Eventually the front of the green draw will be painted an off white with chalk paint, but I could not contain my excitement and had to post this makeover right now :)

Yes, the desk is IKEA too... :)
